RDA in Turkey: Perceptions and Expectations on Implementation

Integration of user-generated content with librarycatalogs become more important with the developments in webtechnologies and semantic networks. As a result of thesedevelopments, library catalogs are linked with open data resourceslike the Virtual International Authority File (VIAF), DBpedia, andamazon.com with the aim of bibliographic description via UniformResource Identifier (URI) based structures. On the other hand “Resource Description and Access” (RDA), as anew cataloging standard, supports libraries for their bibliographicdescription studies by increasing access points. Furthermore, manyinitiatives have been launched by countries who would like to keepthemselves up-to-date by using and implementing RDA in theirlibrary catalogs.
